Boy hospitalised after assault by parents

Pune: The parents of a 12-year-old boy have been booked for allegedly assaulting him, as he used to steal money for his tobacco and cigarette addiction. The boy is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital. An FIR has been registered with the Warje Malwadi police station in this regard.

According to police, the incident took place at around 4.30 pm on February 24 at their house in Apte Colony, Warje. After getting a certificate from the hospital, a policeman lodged a complaint against the boy’s mother (32) and step-father (37). The boy was beaten up with a stick and belt and has sustained injuries on his back, chest, legs, hand and head. His right hand and right leg are also fractured. The boy was beaten till he became unconscious. The couple hit him even after that, the FIR states. 

Senior Police Inspector Bajirao Mole, in-charge of Warje Malwadi police station, said, “After getting information from the hospital, we conducted a thorough probe and then registered an FIR. The woman works as a maid while the man is a driver.

They were fed up with the boy’s stealing habits due to his addiction and hit him in a fit of rage. We have not arrested them, as they are in the hospital to look after the boy.” Police have charged the couple for offences under sections 325 (punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
