Pune: The e-library of the rare and old books at the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute (BORI) will be inaugurated after around a year of digitisation work on Wednesday.
The institute has presently uploaded around 1,000 books on its website www.borilib.com which is all set to open for public after Wednesday.
The digitisation began last year as a part of the projects to commemorate the centenary year of the institute.
The e-library will be accessible to the public free of cost.
While the books will not be available to download, everyone will be able to read them online.
The e-library will also be linked to the National Virtual Library of India (NVLI).
The purpose of the e-library is the preservation of the rare books as well as making them available to the masses.
“In the next six months, the number of books will increase to around 10,000. We have a total of around 20,000 rare books that will be uploaded. These are the books that were not at all available in any form on the Internet till date, so this e-library will help the researchers and students in a big way,” said Bhoopal Patwardhan from BORI.
BORI has also organised an exhibition of the books of their own publication from December 19 till 26, where around 340 of their books, along with some others, will be available.
