BNCA holds workshop for visually impaired

PUNE: About 80 visually impaired students from the Patashibai Ratanchand Manavkalyan Trust Blind School, Bhosari, received training in Origami Craft and Djembe (Drum) by Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha’s Dr Bhanuben Nanavati College of Architecture for Women (BNCA)’s Universal Design Centre in association with Design Bridge Foundation, an NGO working in the disability sector.

The origami training was given by architect Bobbie Vijayakkar, an origami expert, and the Djembe training was given by Nitin Satav of TRL Dhoom Academy. Around 50 students from BNCA volunteered for this activity and helped in the training by handholding the students.

Anurag Kashyap, Principal of BNCA, and Prof Kavita Murugkar, initiator of this event, expressed that this event was useful to break all the stigmas and prejudices associated with blindness and prove that people with disabilities are blessed with abilities, which can be used to perform equally in the society, provided they are given the appropriate opportunities and resources.

BNCA’s recent initiative included Tactile Guiding Path training for 100 blind students in collaboration with the State Commissionerate of Disabilities.
