“I  passed a resolution of naming Sangvi auditorium after late actor Nilu Phule but some people did not like this. They forced me to resign from NCP and join BJP. But they ensured my defeat in the election. I realised that these people are running the party for their personal interests. Therefore, I am rejoining the  NCP.”

PIMPRI: In a major setback to ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Pimpri-Chinchwad, MLA Laxman Jagtap’s cousin and former corporator Rajendra Jagtap rejoined Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in presence of Ajit Pawar.

This is first such defection from BJP, which had inducted many faces from NCP before the civic elections.

Jagtap had contested PCMC elections on a BJP ticket from Sangvi ward but lost the seat to Navnath Jagtap, another close aide of Laxman Jagtap, who contested the election as an independent candidate.

While speaking at the function, Jagtap criticised Laxman Jagtap without taking his name. He said, “I  passed a resolution of naming Sangvi auditorium after late actor Nilu Phule but some people did not like this. They forced me to resign from NCP and join BJP. But they ensured my defeat in the election. I realised that these people are running the party for their personal interests. Therefore, I am rejoining the  NCP.”

Several sitting NCP corporators had joined BJP along with Chinchwad MLA Laxman Jagtap before the election.

Due to large scale exodus, NCP met with devastating defeat in its own bastion, No one was expecting NCP’s defeat. With Rajendra Jagtap’s homecoming, NCP leadership is thinking this is just a beginning and more and more people would join the party again in coming days.
