BJP will issue guidelines to corporators on use of funds

Pune: To avoid the misuse of funds through unnecessary and repetitive development work carried out by the corporators, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be issuing guidelines for corporators on how to use budgetary provisions to carry out development works in their respective wards. According to sources, the guidelines will soon be implemented.

BJP has completed one year in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). During the review meeting to discuss the work carried out by corporators, it was revealed that corporators are spending ward level development funds on repetitive works such as changing paver blocks of footpaths, changing street lights, demolishing old toilets and constructing new ones, reconstructing internal tar roads, which are in good condition, placing direction boards, painting compound walls and placing benches.

Being the ruling party, the Standing Committee has allotted more than Rs 6 crore ward level development funds to each corporator.

One of the leaders of BJP party said on condition of anonymity, “It was observed that corporators had suggested the same kind of work for this financial year. Hence, the party is preparing guidelines for corporators on how to use development funds, which will encourage corporators to be innovative in their approach. This will help us in garnering appreciation from residents.”

On the other side, one of the BJP corporators said, “We suggested work as per Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act. The situation differs in each ward and public requirements too are different. However, it revolves around basic needs such as water, drainage, roads etc.”
