Pimpri: BJP’s Maval MLA Sanjay alias Bala Bhegade had a miraculous escape when the cable of the lift he was traveling in snapped and the lift cabin crashed on the ground. Bhegade’s son and an employee of Atharva Hospital were also in the lift when the accident took place at the hospital in Talegaon Dabhade. The two-term MLA was on a visit to the hospital for a neck ailment on Saturday afternoon when the accident took place.

Bhegade said that the lift was moving towards the sixth floor when there was a power failure and suddenly the lift came crashing down with a loud thud.

“We heaved a sigh of relief when we realised that all of us were safe despite the crash,” he said.
Atharva Hospital’s Dr Ajit Mane said that the lift is being used since last one year when the hospital was opened. “On Saturday, there was a power failure and the lift cable got snapped when the generator started functioning. We have lodged a complaint in this connection with the lift operating company,” he said.
