Four corporators of the BJP face criminal charges in last 15 months

Pimpri: It seems BJP’s tall claim to make Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) crime-free has fallen flat. During the campaign of the civic polls of the PCMC in February 2017, BJP had promised that it will ensure ‘corruption free and crime free’ city. However, opposition parties are claiming that the BJP has failed on both the fronts.

In last 15 months, four BJP corporators have been booked for serious offences. In addition to this, BJP functionaries themselves have made allegations of corruption against office bearers of the party.

Within the last 15 months, serious criminal cases have been registered against four BJP corporators. These corporators include Sujata Palande, Tushar Hinge, Tushar Kamthe and Sports Committee Chairman Sanjay Nevale.

A case of serious offence has been registered against corporator Tushar Hinge, who got elected from ward number 21 of Sambhajinagar. Hinge was accused of beating up the man in the premises of Yamunanagar police chowki.

Similarly, a cheating complaint was filed against corporator Tushar Kamthe at Sangvi police station. Kamthe was elected on the BJP ticket from Pimple Nilakh, Vishalnagar and Kaspate Vasti.

Also, a serious case was registered against BJP corporator Sujata Palande for abettement of suicide at Sant Tukaramnagar, Pimpri. A person named Sachin Dhavale, who had allegedly committed suicide, had mentioned Palande for his death in a suicide note. Dhavale, a street vendor, had alleged that he was committing suicide as Palande forced the administration to remove the stalls of Dhavale and others.

Recently, a complaint has been filed at Nigdi police station against Chairman of  PCMC Sports Committee Sanjay Nevale and six others. They are accused of assaulting a shop owner and destroying his property.

Meanwhile, Leader of House in PCMC Eknath Pawar said, “We are not going to shield any individual if a complaint is registered against him merely because he is a corporator of our party. But the person is private individual also and he may have personal enmity. If there is no merit in the complaint and it has been registered as a result of personal grudges against the corporator then there is no point in running media trials against them. It will be clear in police investigations whether they have committed a crime or not. If it is found that they are responsible for any illegal activity then the party will not shield them.”
