Pune: Nikita More of Morewadi village in Raigad district won’t have to walk 14 km every day to attend school and return home anymore. A shining ray of hope for this girl’s education came from a Pune-based businessman who gave her an electric bicycle to put an end to her commute struggle.
More, a student of Std XI, used to walk 7 km daily from her residence to school situated in Palchil village of Poladpur taluka, spending four hours just on the commute.
Anirudhha Deshpande, Managing Director of City Corporation, said, “I read about her on social media and that’s how I got in touch with her. Looking at her urge for education, I gave her an electric bicycle.
This cycle is manufactured by Nibe Motors. It can be fully charged in two hours and runs for 100 km with a speed of 25 km per hour. It has a user-friendly carrier charger and when not charged, it can be used as a regular non-electric cycle.”
Now that she has got this bicycle, Nikita expressed happiness about her travel time getting cut to just 45 minutes one-way. “Because of this bicycle I can now devote more time to my studies,” she said.
