Beggar hacked to death over minor argument

Pune: A 28-year-old homeless person was killed on the intervening night of Saturday-Sunday at a spot near Queen’s Garden. The police have booked one person on the charges of murder.

The deceased man was a beggar and was killed by the accused for confronting him not to bother beggars and poor living near Sadu Vaswani Bridge.

The deceased man was a beggar and was killed by the accused for confronting him not to bother beggars and poor living near Sadu Vaswani Bridge.

The deceased was identified as Sonu Kushwah who used to reside in the vicinity of Sai temple located near Sadhu Vaswani Bridge. Kushwah was killed by the accused identified as Shiva who inflicted grievous injuries on his head using a sharp-edged weapon.

According to the Koregaon police, Kushwah who used to live near Sadhu Vaswani Bridge was a beggar and used to eat food provided by Sadhu Vaswani Mission at a spot near the bridge. A fortnight ago, Kushwah confronted the accused Shiva who roughed up and threatened beggars who were having the food provided by the mission near the bridge. Shiva indulged in an argument with Kushwah and threatened to kill him. 

The police registered the complaint after the incident was reported to police by an acquaintance of the deceased on Sunday.
