Pune: A beauty parlour owner was arrested by the Wakad police for sexually abusing and blackmailing a 16-year-old girl. The accused took videos of the girl and threatened to circulate them if she refused to work at his parlour. The incident took place on May 9 at the accused’s beauty parlour in Wakad.

The accused was identified as Sharafat Khan (24), a resident of Wakad. The minor had gone to the parlour for a job and training, but was molested and blackmailed. The girl was frightened after she was threatened by the accused and didn’t return home for a day on May 12. The next day, when she came home, she reported the matter to her parents, after which a complaint was lodged and the police arrested the accused on Tuesday.

Mohan Jadhav, Police Sub-Inspector, Wakad police station, said, “The minor girl was first interviewed by the accused on May 8. A day later, she went there for training, during which she was sexually abused by the accused. The accused took her to a separate room in the two-floored parlor and made her do a facial on his face. While the girl was doing a facial, he forced herself upon her and sexually abused her. He also videotaped the act.”

“On May 10, the girl went to the parlour again to collect her two days salary of Rs 500 and then joined another parlour. When she stopped going to the accused’s place, the accused confronted her and threatened to circulate her video on WhatsApp if she doesn’t work at his parlour. The girl was scared and didn’t come back home on May 12. Her parents approached us and filed a case of kidnapping. However, the next day, she came back home and reported the matter to her parents, who in turn approached us,” added Jadhav

The police have registered a case under section 354A (punishment for sexual harassment) of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
