Pune: Pune District Guardian Minister Girish Bapat said that water will not be taken from Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad's water quota while ensuring water supply scheme for 0.5 TMC ft for Wagholi and Pirangut.

On Monday, Bapat also declared a comprehensive water supply plan for PMRDA region on the occasion of the third anniversary of PMRDA.

"We will provide water to Pirangut and Wagholi by implementing experimental water supply scheme. We will use water from river and existing dams. However, we will not take any water from Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad's allotted water quota," assured Bapat.

"We will clean available water sources with help of villagers and create new water resources. The government will provide machinery and other things. We will also recycle used water and use different methods to save water," he added.

When asked about the construction of a new dam, he said, “Krishna basin Water Supply Project has already decided water quotas in Krishna basin. If we construct a dam, it will increase water and for distribution of increasing water storage, we will have to approach water tribunal. It might create inter-state problems. So, it is better to save water than constructing a new dam.”

Bapat released PMRDA's third-anniversary report which mentioned different development projects. PMRDA consists of two municipal corporations, seven municipal councils, 12 townships and 842 villages. PMRDA region has a population of 72.67 lakh.
