“There is need to destroy such mindset of people involved in criminal offences of child abuse. Police department work is appreciable but we need to find solutions to control this problem” added Bapat.

Pune: Guardian Minister Girish Bapat has asked all senior police officials of Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune rural to spread awareness in schools and colleges about the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) act.

Bapat recently held a meeting with senior police officials, officials of women and child development, Maharashtra Child Rights Commission and others to find solutions to prevent cases of child abuse. Bapat stressed on the need to bring such crimes under control and has asked officials to spread maximum awareness of such crimes. He also instructed police officials to try their best to fight against these cases in court to increase the conviction rate in such cases.

“There is need to destroy such mindset of people involved in criminal offences of child abuse. Police department work is appreciable but we need to find solutions to control this problem” added Bapat.

Police officials said that in majority of the cases, the accused is known to the victim and hence, parents and family members should be more alert and take care of their children as they are more closer to them, than police.

It must be noted that a 12-year-old girl died in September, two days after she was raped with another girl of her age at a secluded place in Hinjawadi by a labourer.
