Chandan Kumar Singh, a native of Bihar, who currently works and resides in Khadki, has lodged the complaint. He has an account in SBI’s Siwan branch in Bihar. He had gone to his native place when on December 9 last year, his wife informed him about the withdrawal message of Rs 7,500.

“My wife uses the mobile number linked to my account. I told her that I didn’t withdraw any money. I called on the bank’s helpline number and complained about the withdrawal without my knowledge. When I went to the branch and checked my account, I was shocked to find that only Rs 315 was left. Someone had withdrawn Rs 80,000 between December 7 and 9. Later, on December 11 (as 10th was Sunday), my branch officials said that the amount was withdrawn in Bengaluru. Even after complaining to bank officials, the amount was withdrawn,” Singh stated in his complaint.

The police have booked an unidentified person for offences under section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Information
Technology (IT) Act.
