Pune: The wait of Std X students for new textbooks finally ended on Tuesday after Balbharati released the first set of new textbooks with the revised syllabus.
Parents and students had flocked in large numbers to get the new books since early hours of morning on Tuesday at the Balbharati office on Senapati Bapat Road.
A total of two crore books of changed syllabus were to be printed, out of which, 1.50 crore books have been distributed across Maharashtra on the very first day while remaining 50 lakh books are to be out within a couple of days. Around five lakh books were distributed in Pune alone.
There are a total of 85 subjects in eight languages. Out of this, 49 subjects including major ones like mathematics, science, history, geography, languages, etc, were distributed on the first day. While the remaining like defence science and minority languages and books of other subjects will be distributed in next few days.
Earlier, Std VIII textbooks were produced by Maharashtra State Textbooks Production and Syllabus Research Centre (Balbharati).
And the textbooks from Std IX to XII were formulated by Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) and were printed and distributed by Balbharati.
For the first time, Std X textbooks this year and Std IX textbooks last year were produced by Balbharati alone. It will also be looking after the entire production of Std XI and XII textbooks soon. “However, the State government is yet to announce the decision,” informed Manager of Stock and Distribution Department in Balbharati Dattatreya Keth.
