Pune: Automatic western public toilets will be installed within the jurisdiction of Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) soon.
According to a senior engineer of the Cantonment, these toilets will be installed by city-based firm Samtek Technologies.
Five locations have been finalised. These include Rani Laxmibai Udyan, opposite Dr Coyaji Road, MG Road, Mahatma Gandhi Bus Stand, JJ Garden and Empress Garden.
In the recent board meeting of the Cantonment, Ashok Pawar, ward member of the Cantonment, stressed on installing these toilets in Shivaji market area as well.
DN Yadav, Chief Executive Officer of PCB, said, “The toilets will be installed for free by Samtek Technologies and the Cantonment will providing water connections, electric connections, sewage connections and foundation. The foundations are ready at the JJ Garden and Mahatma Gandhi Bus Stand.”
Shobhit Gupta, Director of Samtek Technologies, said, “At five places within the jurisdiction of the PCB, automated western toilets will be installed. They will be built using CSR funds, which we will get from other private companies. We are just going to operate and maintain these toilets for a period of 10 years without any charges.”
Functioning of automatic toilets
Gupta said these automatic toilets have a tech panel outside that allows users to insert a coin to unlock its doors.
Inside the toilet there is a lavatory, flush system and a wash basin. The flush works on its own and the wash basin has a water supply from a water tank fixed above the toilet, which is of 500 litres capacity that pours in water as soon as the user places his hands under the tap.
For each person, one to three litres of water is dispensed. Once you are done with the use and lock the door,
Samtek automatic toilet cleans itself by spreading and sprinkling water as well as anti-germ chemicals to keep the toilet reusable.
One can be inside the toilet for not more than 20 minutes, after which a red siren situated outside the e-toilet starts ringing.
The toilet seat is cleaned automatically and the floor is cleaned automatically after 10 uses.
There is an emergency button inside the toilet, which is controlled on an app operated by the staff of Samtek.
In case of an emergency, our people will be deployed on the spot.
