Pune: An autorickshaw driver and his friend were arrested by Kondhwa police for allegedly raping a 23-year-old girl in Siddharth Nagar. The girl was allegedly held captive by rickshaw driver on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday and was released on Thursday evening by his friend.
The accused duo was identified as Balaji Shinde (31), and Satish Mane (23), both residents of Siddharth Nagar in Kondhwa. On Wednesday, the girl boarded the autorickshaw of Shinde at Kondhwa and asked him to drop her to Kothrud.
However, instead of taking her to Kothrud, the accused took her to his friend’s place in Siddharth Nagar.
The complainant who is a divorcee was living at her mother's house in Yerawada for a year. However, on Wednesday night, she had an argument with her brother and left for her husband's house in Kondhwa. After reaching her husband's house at around 10 pm, she waited outside the building for some time and then boarded Shinde's autorickshaw and asked him to take her to Kothrud.
As per the statement of the complainant, instead of taking her to Kothrud Shinde took her to a room of his friend Mane at Siddharth Nagar, where she was raped by Mane till early morning. On Thursday morning, Shinde came again and took her to a room situated at Handewadi in Hadapsar and raped her.
Later, in the evening, Shinde asked one of his friends to take her to Camp.
Milind Gaikwad, Police Inspector, Kondhwa police station, said, “We have arrested the duo whereas one of their friends is absconding. We have started our investigation and things will be cleared soon."
Both the accused have been booked under section 376 (rape) of IPC.
