Army nursing assts arrested for rape

PUNE: The Khadki police station arrested two of four nursing assistants from army, who had allegedly raped a 34-year-old speech impaired woman employee at Military Hospital (MH) in Range Hills, Khadki. The incident took place between January and June 2015.

The arrested accused persons have been identified as Ravindra Singh and Mangilal Ahirwar. They were detained in Delhi and brought to Pune on Wednesday. The other accused are Haroon Rashid and Mohammad Muthazim.

The woman had earlier complained to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Army Chief. Later, she approached Anand Service Society, Indore, an organisation which works for deaf and mute persons. With the help of sign language, she conveyed her ordeal and in October they lodged a complaint with Indore DIG. The case was transferred to Pune police and an FIR was registered against the four accused persons with the Khadki police station.

According to the police, the victim was raped while she was working in the night shift. When she complained to the senior officer, he too raped her. They made a video of her and used that to blackmail and rape her along with two other jawans who are from Army Medical Corps (AMC).

The police have booked the accused jawans for offences under sections 376 (2) (e) (being on the management or on the staff of a hospital, commits rape on a woman in that hospital), 354 (a) (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
