Pune: Seven persons including three women were brutally assaulted by a gang of armed dacoits who attacked three houses in Bhorwadi-Avsari Khurd, about 60 km from Pune, in Ambegaon taluka of Pune district.
The incident took place in the wee hours of Monday, wherein cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 5.1 lakh were looted. The locality is situated along Pune-Nashik Highway.
As per the Pune rural police, the dacoits broke into the house of Ramdas Lakshman Shinde and assaulted his family members with iron rods and sharp weapons including an axe. They threatened to kill a two-year-old child and snatched cash and ornaments from female members after beating them. The dacoits were in the house for about half-an-hour and were also drinking liquor.
“They injured my husband and father-in-law by hitting them on their heads. They broke our phones. One of the dacoits put his foot on my two-year-old son’s chest and threatened to kill him. They were drunk and were kicking female members of the family,” said Renuka Shinde, who was hit in the stomach.
The dacoits broke into the locked room of Amit Popat and ate mutton-bhakri. They also consumed liquor there.
Later, the dacoits attacked family members of Deepak Pingale and injured him, his mother Mandabai and grandmother Kalabai, when they resisted and tried to stop the dacoits from entering the house. The dacoits fled when Pingale’s neighbours Nilesh Erande and Nirmala Bhor rushed to help. Erande attacked a dacoit with a wooden stick. The dacoits pelted stones and fled away. They snatched Nirmala’s gold chain.
Injured persons have been admitted to the civic hospital in Manchar, including Kalabai who received severe injuries.
