API among 4 sentenced to 3 years’ jail

Driver Vishal Devidas Bhende (33), registered a complaint with Hadapsar police against API Giridhar Yadav, constable Ganesh More and two civilians Avinash Devkar and Ravindra Mane. Earlier they were acquitted by the Pune Cantonment court.

Pune: An assistant police inspector, a police constable and two others were sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment for looting Rs 96 lakh from a driver of an optometrist firm in 2015. 

The driver was waiting in the car with the cash after two officials working with the firm had deboarded to freshen up at Gandharva Residency near Hadapsar when the four approached him and robbed him.

Additional Sessions Judge AS Bhaisare convicted them and sentenced them to three years of rigorous imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on each of them.

All the convicts are currently out on bail. The court accepted their application for suspension of sentence till their appeal before the High Court is over.
