Pune: Another piece of metal was found near the gate of Andh Vidyalaya (school for blind children), located near Viththal temple at Ramtekdi, by Wanawadi police. Earlier, a similar metal piece weighing 5 kg, reportedly fell on a house on August 8 from a helicopter flying over Ramtekdi. Both objects fell from the same helicopter, according to sources.
A source privy to the investigation said the piece of metal was around the same size, weight and colour as the first one. “The other piece of metal was found two days after the first incident was reported. It matched the object which fell on a house in Ramnagar slums. Both pieces seem to be part of one object,” added the source.
“Military authorities said that the iron object that fell on the house was not part of a helicopter, but can be part of goods transported and could have fallen from the helicopter,” said the source.
A source in Defence establishment said, “The incident occurred at 5.30 pm and the last sortie made by the Army helicopter was at 3 pm, which was only a ten-minute sortie. Two more Army helicopters flew that day, but not at the time of the incident. Our inquiry is going on.”
An airport official, on condition of anonymity, confirmed that none of the civil helicopters had flown that day over that area. He said, “Civil helicopters didn’t fly that day over Ramtekdi at any given point of time and we are not aware of the flights of military helicopters.”
When contacted, Sayaji Gaware, Police Inspector, Wanawadi police station, said, “Yes, another piece has been found and is similar to the first object. It’s confirmed that both pieces fell from a helicopter, but whether military or civil, is a matter of investigation.”
“Officials of Military Intelligence visited the spot and started their investigation. Air Traffic Control will also submit its report. Hopefully, the mystery will be solved soon,” added Gaware.
On August 8, a green coloured rusted iron object fell from an unknown helicopter and pierced deep inside the house belonging to Benit Lobo in Ramnagar slum.
