Pune: Almost two and a half months after an 18-month-old baby girl was crushed to death by a JCB machine at a construction site in Fursungi, officials of the Hadapsar police station received an anonymous letter, on the basis of which a case was registered for causing the child’s death due to negligence against three accused.

The body of Deepali Dharmaji Gaikwad was buried by her parents under pressure from the JCB driver and owner. Deepali’s parents are labourers who worked at the construction site. Now, based on the complaint filed by Police Inspector Anjum Bagwan, an FIR has been registered against JCB driver Jagannath Waghmare of Fursungi, owner Sagar Dighe (28) of Fursungi and contractor Balaji Shinde (42) of Kharadi, who originally hails from Nanded.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 2.30 pm on March 6 at Green Hive construction site in Fursungi.

After the baby’s death, nobody informed the police.

The accused allegedly pressurised the parents for not lodging a police complaint. The couple left for their village after burying the body. The incident came to light last week after police officials received the aforesaid anonymous letter.
