Pune: As part of Courtyard by Marriott Pune Chakan’s ‘Spirit to Serve Our Communities’ and ‘Take Care’ initiatives, Ajivali village in Maharashtra was chosen for their CSR activity, which involved making the village self-sufficient in water.

‘Team Phenomenal’ at Courtyard by Marriott Pune Chakan did a recce of Ajivali, located in Maval (Pune district). Access to clean water wasn’t easy for the villagers here and women and children would travel a long distance to fetch water for their daily needs.

Working closely with Atom Solar Pvt Ltd, the villagers of Ajivali were educated about the benefits of rainwater harvesting. The villagers, with the support of gram panchayat, created a farm pond of around 200x150 feet. During the monsoon, this farm pond was filled with water and has now become a water source for them.

Courtyard by Marriott Pune Chakan, in association with Atom Solar Pvt Ltd, decided to install a solar-enabled water pump of 0.5 hp, which will pump the reserved water from the farm pond into a network of pipes taking water to their homes.

Nasir Shaikh, General Manager, Courtyard by Marriott Pune Chakan, who spearheaded the initiative, said, “This small step will supply water to individual households through the existing pipes, a sustainable solution using renewable energy. It will go a long way in the future development of the families living there”.
