Affected villagers demand compensation

Pune: At a press conference by villagers at Koregaon-Bhima on Friday, outsiders were blamed for the large scale vandalism in the village. The villagers also blamed the State government for not maintaining law and order.

Sarpanch Sunita Kamble said people from all communities live in the village in harmony. She said the government should compensate them for losses incurred in the riots. Vrushali  Gavhane, a villager, said for last two days they had to live without electricity and water supply.

The villagers said there was a conspiracy to tarnish the image of their village and government failed in gathering intelligence regarding this conspiracy. Meanwhile, the Pune District Collector has imposed section 144(3) of the CrPC in Mauje Vadu Budruk, Koregaon-Bhima, Sanaswadi, Shikrapur and Kondhapuri till January 10.
