Actress arrested, ATS officer suspended for extortion bid

PUNE: A 25-year-old Marathi film actress was arrested on Saturday for allegedly trying to extort Rs 14 lakh from an actor, with the help of her accomplices, who included her female friend, a notorious goon as well as an ATS officer. The goon, Ram Jagdale has been arrested, while the ATS officer has been suspended. 

A team led by Crime Branch Police Inspector Gajanan Pawar arrested the accused actress in Latur. She has been remanded to police custody till April 30 by a court.

According to the police, both the actors worked together in a film. Later, she lodged a molestation case against the 28-year-old actor. To settle the case, she along with her three accomplices allegedly demanded Rs 15 lakh as extortion money from the actor. He paid Rs 1 lakh to them. 

Soon after the actor lodged an FIR with Sahakarnagar police station, a team comprising Inspector Pawar and policemen Sunil Pawar and Shankar Sampate nabbed Jagdale. ACP Bhanupratap Barge and Sameer Shaikh are supervising the investigation. 

According to the police, the actor was called to Jagdale’s office on September 28 last year and he and his relatives were confined there between 5 pm and 8 pm. He was allegedly forced to apologise to the actress and touch her feet and was filmed doing so. Jagdale allegedly threatened the actor with a pistol and also threatened to throw acid at him. They demanded Rs 15 lakh to settle the molestation complaint.

The actor reportedly paid Rs one lakh to the police sub-inspector. As he failed to pay the rest, the other female accused, who is the actress’ friend, circulated the video of his apologising to the actress. Soon, the video went viral on social media.
