Actors celebrate I-Day in Yerwada Central Jail

The jail authorities had invited the film makers, who were looking for a prison to release the song of the film, for entertainment of the inmates. A meticulous planning was done for gathering of almost all inmates of the Central jail

Pune: Around 4,000 inmates of the Yerawada Central Prison on Independence Day spent time with the cast of upcoming film ‘Lucknow Central’, which is based on a jail escape. A song of the film was also released on the occasion.  Actors Farhan Akhtar, Diana Penty, Ravi Kishan, Deepak Dobriyal, Ronit Roy, Rajesh Sharma and director Ranjit Tiwari were present at the jail. Some of the prisoners also danced with the film stars.

The jail authorities had invited the film makers, who were looking for a prison to release the song of the film, for entertainment of the inmates. A meticulous planning was done for gathering of almost all inmates of the Central jail. Over 200 inmates worked hard to decorate the premises to welcome the guests. The inmates cheered when Prisons Department chief Bhushankumar Upadhyay, Additional Director General of Police, in his speech said, “Hum angrezonke ke jamane ke jailer nahin hain.”

The officer said opposite of what the iconic jailer from blockbuster film ‘Sholay’ says in the film. Some Hindi and Marathi songs were performed by jail inmate Nitin Aarole and jail staff Prabhakar Mali and Pratibha Ghugre. Prisoner Rohan Hazare, who is imprisoned for four years, shared his thoughts in English.  DIG Swati Sathe and Jail Superintendent UT Pawar were present.
