Pune: Ravindra Chorge, who was arrested by the sleuths of the Deccan police station from Jalgaon on Sunday, was a sub-agent of builder Deven Shah, who was murdered by him and his accomplice Rahul Shivtare on the night of January 13 in the parking lot of the deceased’s flat at Prabhat Road.
A highly placed source in the police department said, “Chorge was a sub-agent of Shah and used to get him land deals. He used to facilitate the purchase of lands from farmers for Shah and also used to help him settle disputes related to financial dealings. He killed him as Shah held back his commission money.”
A press conference was also held on Monday in the wake of the arrest of Chorge. While addressing the press conference, DCP Basavraj Teli of Zone -1, said, “After killing the deceased builder, the duo was on the run and were not staying at the same place in order to avoid arrest. While on the run, they first went to Bhor, then continued hopping from one place to another including Mahad, Khopoli, Dehu Road, Burhanpur, Indore and Ujjain.”
“Their first port of entry in Madhya Pradesh was Burhanpur, after which they went to Indore, Ujjain and then again to Burhanpur. The two accused were together in Burhanpur after which they decided to separate paths in order to avoid arrest and also as they were losing on cash,” added Teli.
Teli informed that Shivtare stayed at Burhanpur while Chorge came to Jalgaon on Friday and was staying at a hotel. He further said, “Motive to kill Shah has not be been clarified. Indore-based real estate agent Rajesh Agrawal is also on the run, however, his connection in the case is also not cleared. Matter will be clear only after the interrogation of Chorge and the arrest of other accused Shivtare.”
