The accident took place near Karuliphata on Pune-Nashik Road at around 5 pm on November 29, 2011. Shinde was riding a bike towards Pune when the car dashed him. He succumbed to injuries at a private hospital in Nigdi two days later.

Even though the court had acquitted the car driver Anwar-Ul-Haq, the MACT stated that it has no bearing on the award of compensation and directed the insurance firm and car owner to pay the amount of compensation.
