Speaking to Sakal Times, Sushil Gaikwad of ABVS said, “PMPML has cancelled the short distance bus passes that cost around Rs 450. So now, the students need to pay Rs 750 for the long-distance pass, even when they have to travel shorter distances.”

PUNE: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena (ABVS), on Wednesday, agitated against Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) at Swargate for increasing the cost of the students’ bus passes causing financial inconvenience to many.

Speaking to Sakal Times, Sushil Gaikwad of ABVS said, “PMPML has cancelled the short distance bus passes that cost around Rs 450. So now, the students need to pay Rs 750 for the long-distance pass, even when they have to travel shorter distances.”

He said, “Additionally, due to centralised admissions, many students have to travel far off for attending college, and these students prefer to travel by bus as they cannot afford to ride on two-wheelers to their colleges. How is a bus pass of Rs 750 helpful to these students? Are the authorities not thinking of the financially backward students at all?”

ABVS has submitted a proposal to PMPML officials requesting them to consider the demands and reduce the cost of the pass. Gaikwad said that if PMPML fails to consider the requests, they will have to widen the protest.
