About 8,500 cops to be deployed for New Year

Pune: Around 8,500 policemen will be deployed in the city on New Year Eve to maintain law and order in the city. Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Kadam said that police officials will be focussing on law and order issues, eve-teasing, molestation, drink and drive and managing traffic on New Year Eve.

The police said that apart from usual men in khaki, the Quick Response Team, the Riot Control Police, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads, and the traffic police will be present for patrolling on New Year Eve.

Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Kadam said that people should take care of not to drink and drive on the streets.

“Similarly after the recent fire incident of Mumbai, people should take care and not panic in such situations. Our force will be active in all areas of high footfall to prevent incidents of molestation and stampede and people must cooperate with the police,” he added.

He appealed to people to make use of the police control room, City Safe app, Buddy Cop and other modes to reach to police in case they are in trouble. “We have deployed our force for other festivals, but force of 8,500 is sufficient for us,” added Kadam. The police said that apart from routine patrolling spots, more police force will be deployed on JM Road, FC Road, Koregaon Park and Mundhwa.
