Pune: An 83-year-old woman was found dead in her flat in Rahul Apartment, off Law College Road on Monday. The police suspect she died about three days back. The deceased Aruna Dhuru used to stay alone in the flat and her neighbours did not know much about her.
Arun Karnik (82), who resides in the flat opposite Aruna’s flat, informed the police around 11 am about foul smell emanating from the flat.
When officials from Deccan Gymkhana police station reached the spot, the door was found to be locked from inside. The Fire Brigade was summoned and they broke open the door. Her body was then taken to Sassoon General Hospital for post-mortem.
Senior Police Inspector Ajay Kadam, in-charge of Deccan Gymkhana police station, said, “We suspect she died about 3-4 days back. Exact details will be known after we get the post-mortem report. She had been staying alone here for the last few years.”
As nobody had contact details of her relatives, the police found a lawyer’s number who had fought her property case. The lawyer gave the number of her brother who lives in Mumbai, to whom the body was handed over.
A society member told Sakal Times, “She was not paying maintenance charges of the society and did not mingle with society residents. We found newspapers of 3-4 days lying in the balcony.”
