70 pc less accidents in PCB limits, says CEO

PUNE: Even if development and construction work in Pune Cantonment is carried out at a snail's pace, their strict rules and regulations related to traffic and speed limits are leading to less road accidents compared to other city roads.

DN Yadav, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pune Cantonment Board (PCB), claims that from last two years, there have been 70 per cent less roads accidents in PCB jurisdiction compared to city areas.

The signage boards of speed limits put up at every crossroad are influencing riders and drivers to maintain the speed limit due to which there has been a significant curtailment in road accidents. Yadav said, “In cantonment limits, we follow strict rules and regulations related to traffic since some of the roads fall under Army areas. Hence, commuters tend to follow the rules and regulations. Also, the areas, which come under civil limits, are also strictly monitored.”

“In 2017, we had installed almost 50 CCTV cameras at all the crossroads of the cantonment due to which the fast riders and drivers maintain their speed and this minimises the road accidents. Also, there are speed breakers, barricades and zebra crossings, which again helps to curtail road accidents,” Yadav said.

Yadav added, “We have been positive with the traffic department for any assistance that they need from us and vice-versa. I have myself monitored the traffic several times during the initial days of my tenure. And the current condition of traffic and residents of cantonment following its rule and regulations has seen a positive change and thus, leading to less road accidents.
