Pune: Five persons have been arrested by Pune city police Crime Branch unit 3 for allegedly looting Rs 27.5 lakhs from employees of a petrol pump on Bibvewadi-Kondhwa Road last month. The police claimed to have recovered Rs 24.12 lakhs from the gang members who had planned the robbery for months.
Barnatdas Anthony (54) had lodged an FIR with the Market Yard police station. Around 11.30 am on March 26, Anthony and his colleague Ajay Pardeshi were carrying the cash in a car to deposit in a bank, when two youths on a bike with their faces covered, blocked their car. They threatened them with a sharp weapon and snatched the bag containing cash.
The police have arrested Ahmad Anwar Sayyed (22), Saqib Mehboob Chaudhary alias Latif Bagwan (20), Tausif alias Mohsin Zameer Sayyed (23), Suraj alias Mota alias Dastgir Shamshuddin Yalgi (19) and Zameer Ahmad Hussain Sayyed (59), all residents of Santoshnagar in Katraj.
DCP (Crime) Pankaj Dahane added, “Accused Tausif had kept some money with his father Zameer, who has also been arrested. His family had been hiding in various places and used to frequently change phones. Tausif is a history sheeter. In February 2017, he was externed from city limits.”
The investigation team included police inspector Sitaram More, and policemen Sandip Talekar, Kalpesh Bansode, Sujit Pawar, Sandip Rathod, Atul Sathe and others.
