Pune: As many as 40 employees working in Swargate depot of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) will face action for remaining absent or reporting late to duty without informing the seniors. This was revealed during a surprise visit by Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Nayana Gunde on Saturday.

Gunde made a surprise visit at Swargate bus depot after continuously receiving complaints of absenteeism of the employees without informing the seniors. During her visit, she found that as many as 40 employees were absent. She immediately directed the department heads to take action against them and send a report to her.

The PMPML has a workshop in the main building in Swargate. Currently, around 145 employees are working in the workshop and all important works related to bus repair is carried out here in the workshop. Important technical works like engine work, RTO passing, repair gearbox, brake maintenance and other works are being done here. Apart from this, each depot has a separate workshop but in this workshop, only basic works are done.

“The number of breakdowns of buses is not reducing due to lack of maintenance of the buses. Gunde has taken some efforts to reduce the number and a regular review meeting was conducted by Gunde but still, the result was not improving. Some senior officials have complained to the CMD about continuously absent employees in the workshop from duty without informing seniors or the department head. The timing of this workshop is 8 am to 4.30 pm. Despite repeated warnings, some employees are coming late to work between 8.30 am and 9 am,” said a senior official of the PMPML workshop.

“She visited the workshop on Saturday morning and found some were absent and reached office late when she inspected the workshop. She called all the staff and department heads. She ordered the closure of the gate of employees who reached office late. More than 40 employees were absent or reached late to office. She also ordered to cut their one day salary and ask to send a report. She will take action against those who were absent” the officer said.
