4 sentenced to life term for murder

Pune: Four persons were sentenced to life imprisonment by an Additional Sessions’s Court for murdering a youth in 2012 in Dhankawadi. 

The convicts have been identified as Avinash Ghodke (23), Somanath Bhosale (23), Nilesh Tavare (21) and Deepak Kamble (24), all residents of Sahakar Nagar.

The deceased, Santosh Kamble (30), was hacked to death in November 30, 2012 by the convicts after a dispute over cash collected for Navratri celebrations. Santosh and his wife were assaulted with a sickle. She lodged a complaint at Sahakar Nagar police station.

In  2012, Santosh was head of Ugda Maruti Mitra Mandal but was not working for the mandal and so Avinash collected donations. When Santosh asked for details of the cash collected, he and his wife were assaulted by the convicts.

Additional Sessions Judge PC Bangure passed the order. Public prosecutors Maruti Vadekar and Machindra Gate examined 21 witnesses. Police Inspector Kamlakar Takawale and Police Sub Inspector Shrirang Patil had investigated the case.
