Pune: Four youths were killed in two separate mishaps at Narhe under the jurisdiction of Sinhagad Road police station on the intervening night of Monday-Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon.
In the first mishap, two youths were rammed to death by a recklessly driven truck on the intervening midnight of Monday-Tuesday.
The deceased youths were identified as Santosh Meher, 22, a resident of Solapur and Swapnil Deshmukh, 22, a resident of Chakan. Both were going on a motorcycle when they were hit by a truck driven by Umesh Jawal, a resident of Satara.
In the second mishap which occurred on Wednesday afternoon, two youths were killed near Navale Bridge.
The deceased youths were identified as Umesh Supekar, 28, a resident of Hadapsar and Kunal Kshirsagar, 24, a resident of Dhayari.
Both were riding a motorcycle when they were hit by a Mumbai bound tanker coming from Kolhapur. The truck driver was identified as Suraj Kudve, 33, a resident of Koregaon in Satara.
VB Jagtap, Police Sub-Inspector, Sinhagad Road police station, said, “The tanker driver has been arrested by us. According to the statement given by him, he lost control over the tanker because of brake failure. Before hitting the motorcycle-borne youths, the tanker hit around four vehicles and injured a few more people.”
“On the intervening night of Monday-Tuesday, two youths were killed in an accident. In this case also, we have arrested the driver who was driving on the wrong side of the road,” added Jagtap.
