4 kg gold worth Rs 1.29 crore seized from SpiceJet flight

Officials from Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Customs department seized four gold bars total weighing 4,000 grams worth Rs 1.29 crore from the SpiceJet aircraft at Pune airport on Thursday morning. 

Pune: Officials from Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Customs department seized four gold bars total weighing 4,000 grams worth Rs 1.29 crore from the SpiceJet aircraft at Pune airport on Thursday morning. 

According to officials, the gold bars were covered with black adhesive tape and kept in the toilet of the SpiceJet flight no. SG-52 which arrived from Dubai at 4.25 am. All four gold bars are of foreign origin marked and engraved as international precious metal refiners, bearing serial marks. Inspector Deshraj Meena detected and recovered the gold bars from the toilet.

Rajesh Ramarao, Joint Commissioner, Harshal Mete, Deputy Commissioner, Sudha lyer, Superintendent (AIU), supervised the team which included Sanjay V Zarekar,  Satish C Sangle, both Superintendents of Customs, Rajendra Prasad Meena, GJ Joshi, BS Hagawane all Inspectors of Customs, SS Nimbalkar & AN Bhaat, both Havaldar of Customs.
