4 Army personnel booked for rape

PUNE: In a shocking incident, a 34-year-old speech impaired woman has lodged an FIR with Pune city police alleging that she was raped by four Army personnel. The woman was a group D employee of Military Hospital (MH), Range Hills, Khadki. According to the information, the incident took place between January and June 2015.

The woman had earlier complained to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Army Chief but it fell on deaf ears. Later, she approached Anand Service Society, Indore, an organisation which works for deaf and mute persons. With the help of sign language, she conveyed her ordeal and on Monday they lodged a complaint with Indore DIG. The case was transferred to Pune police and on Tuesday night, an FIR was registered against the four accused persons with the Khadki police station. 

The accused are identified as Haroon Rashid, Mohammad Muthazim, Ravindra Singh and Ahirwal. A case has been registered against the accused.

According to the police, the victim was raped while she was working in the night shift. When she complained to the senior officer, he too raped her. They made her video and used that to blackmail and rape her along with two other jawans who are from Army Medical Corps (AMC).

An Army officer said, “Earlier, there was no FIR. Now a court of inquiry has been ordered. We have summoned the accused persons who have been posted out. 

The police have booked the accused jawans for offences under sections 376 (2) (e) (being on the management or on the staff of a hospital, commits rape on a woman in that hospital), 354 (a) (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
