PUNE: About 3,200 persons who were stranded at different locations in the city, following the incessant rains, were rescued by the city police, fire brigade, district administration and Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporations on Sunday.
The families were temporarily relocated at safer locations until the water in their respective localities recedes. As per information by officials of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), following the release of dam water in Mula and Mutha rivers, combined with continuous rainfall there were incidents of waterlogging reported in many area and water had also gushed into many homes.
Officials of the Fire Fighting Department said that water gushed into several low-lying areas in Balewadi, Baner, Aundh, Yerawada, Sinhagad Road and Bopodi.
Officials of the Fire Fighting Department, city police and PMC were rescuing stranded people. Assistant Police Inspector Amol Bhosale of Khadki police station, with the help of fire fighters, rescued six persons from Adarshnagar slum area.
Officials of the District Administration Department said that 200 persons were shifted from Pavana Nagar slums to Ahiliyadevi High School in Sangvi, 600 persons from Madhuban Society shifted to homes of their relatives. Similarly 150 persons from Gulab Nagar area of Dapodi were shifted to Hutatma Bhagatsingh Vidyamandir in Dapodi.
About 790 persons from Bhatnagar and Sanjay Gandhinagar slums were relocated to Kamla Nehru School. Similarly 250 persons from Ravet were shifted to schools in Valhekarwadi. Around 400 persons were stranded in Rahatani and they were shifted to nearby schools. About 50 patients and 120 staffers of Surya Hospital were rescued by fire fighters. About 800 persons from Bopodi, Yerawada and Shivajinagar were shifted to nearby schools.
