32-yr-old arrested for stealing prescription pad from hospital

Pune: Heavy addiction to a prescription drug forced a 32-year-old man to steal a  prescription pad of a doctor from Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital so that he could procure the drug from a medicine store.

The arrested accused was identified as Sijo George John, who is currently staying in  Nagpur Chawl, Yerwada.

According to Alankar police, a case of break-in and forgery is lodged against Sijo. He completed his studies in nursing and came in Pune in December 2016. Sijo worked as a male nurse at Sahyadri Hospital for a few months but was fired.

The police said that for past four months Sijo is jobless.

On Wednesday afternoon Sijo came to Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital premises and managed to steal a prescription pad of a doctor and used the same to procure the drug from a chemist located on the fourth floor of the hospital.

“The chemist alerted the doctors of the hospital when Sijo came to the counter to buy the medicine and this is also captured in CCTV footage at the hospital. Assistant Manager of the Hospital Nitin Mahbal has lodged a complaint in this regard at Alankar police station,” said Police Sub-Inspector Pankaj Shingare who is investigating the case.

The accused told police that he occasionally takes the drug which is taken through an injection. “Sijo told us that he feels dizzy after taking the drug and is addicted to it,” added Shingare.

The police said Sijo stays alone in Yerawada and hails from Kerala.
