Pune: A 31-year-old man was beaten to death after he failed to pay Rs 20 autorickshaw fare by the rickshaw driver and his friend in Raviwar Peth area on Saturday.
The case was cracked by the Faraskhana police after the two accused were spotted in a CCTV camera footage beating up the man, who hails from Latur. The police identified the deceased as Tanaji Korke, based on the Aadhaar card found in his pocket.
According to information given by Senior Police Inspector Balakrushna Ambure of Faraskhana police station, police naik Suresh Jadhav received information about a man lying in an injured state. When police reached the spot, they took the man in an autorickshaw, which was near the injured man. They later found that the man succumbed to his injuries. Police officials then started the investigation and found that the two accused, Atul Harale and Rohan Godse, had beaten up the deceased.
Ambure said, “Korke had hired Atul’s auto and was supposed to pay Rs 40 fare for the trip. Korke, who works as a labourer, could pay only Rs 20. Atul was irked by this and called up his friend Rohan to beat Korke. The deceased had multiple injuries and had also fallen on the ground.”
Following the incident, the two accused were arrested and charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for murder. The accused were produced in court on Sunday and were sent to police custody till June 22.
