30-year-old techie molested on Nande-Chande Road

Pune: A 30-year-old employee of a multinational company in Hinjewadi Phase III was molested while she was on her way home by the Nande-Chande Road on Wednesday evening. The incident came to light on Friday when the victim was admitted to a hospital in Baner as she was unwell. Officials of the Hinjewadi police station have taken the complaint from the victim.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police Shashikant Shinde the incident occurred at 4 pm when the victim was on her way home on a scooter. “The woman had taken Nande-Chande route from Hinjewadi Phase III to head towards Sus Road. It started raining and she halted to wear her raincoat. It was then when two persons approached her and molested her and escaped from the spot. The woman immediately informed her friends about the incident who then informed us,” added Shinde.

The police said they have already started investigating the case.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Ganesh Shinde said the incident occurred near Mula river and falls under the jurisdiction of Paud police station. “We will register a case under section 354 (molestation) of the Indian Penal Code and hand over the case to Paud police station.

However, we are also investigating the case and are trying to trace the accused,” added Shinde.

The deputy commissioner said the woman has complained about two youths and the police are working on the case based on the details provided by her. “The woman is safe and is undergoing treatment at the hospital as she is under stress,” added Shinde.

Unsafe route?
The route is used by hundreds of professionals working in the information technology field in Hinjewadi. The route connects to Baner and Sus and so is used by IT professionals to avoid traffic congestion on the Wakad-Hinjewadi route. The Nande-Chande stretch becomes risky after 5 pm as there are no street lights and is less populated.
