Pune: A three-year-old boy died and his pregnant mother was seriously injured after they fell into a well in Rajgurunagar, after being chased by a dog on Thursday. The woman was rescued on Friday.
The deceased boy has been identified as Jay Hanumant Shinde. His mother Sangita Shinde (24) is undergoing treatment in a hospital.
They are a native of Beed district and currently residing in Rajgurunagar. Sangita’s husband works with a private firm.
According to the police, Hanumant had asked Sangita to go to her mother’s house as he was unable to pay attention to her.
The couple had an argument following which he went out. When he returned, the house was locked and she was not answering her mobile.
On Friday, the farmer, who owns the farm where the well is located, saw her and alerted the authorities. Later, a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescued the boy and the mother.
According to the police, the woman was sitting on a stone jutting out of the wall. She was not responding when the farmer tried to inquire about her.
The farmer informed a local leader who called up the police.
The police contacted her husband who lodged a complaint and he reached the spot following which the woman was pulled out. As the boy couldn’t be located, a NDRF team was called which fished out the body by Friday afternoon.
The woman told the police that a dog had started chasing them and they ran away and fell into the well as it was pitch dark.
