Pune: In a daring daylight robbery, Rs 27 lakh cash was looted from the staff of a petrol pump on Kondhwa-Bibvewadi Road on Monday. Two staffers of Nasarwan petrol pump in Dhankawadi were carrying the cash in a car when they were attacked near Malhar Hotel with choppers and swords and robbed of the cash.

According to the police, the staffers were carrying the cash collected on Saturday and Sunday at the petrol pump. They were going to deposit the cash at a bank in Bhavani Peth when the robbery took place. Two armed robbers on two bikes blocked the car and then threatened them with choppers. After that, they decamped with the cash bag and left one of the bikes at the crime scene.

Based on a complaint from Anthony Burman (47), an FIR has been registered against the unidentified robbers with the Market Yard police station. Senior police officers visited the spot after the robbery. “Investigations are underway. There may be a possibility of an insider’s role as the robbers knew about the cash and the route the staffers were taking,” an officer told Sakal Times.
