23-yr-old held for posing as fighter pilot of Indian Navy

Pune: A 23-year-old man was arrested by Chatuhshrungi police for posing as a fighter pilot of Indian Navy on Thursday.

The arrested man was identified as Rajan Sharma, a resident of Shailesh Tower in Siddharth Nagar in Aundh. Sharma originally hails from South 24 Pargana in West Bengal and used to pose as a naval officer in the residential society and social media. He was arrested on a tip-off provided to sleuths of Pune ATS (Anti Terrorism Squad).

An ATS officer, on condition of anonymity, said, “We received an input from Naval Intelligence about Sharma. He posed as a naval officer on social media as well as in his society to woo girls. He wrote on social media that he was a fighter pilot in Indian Navy. He came into the radar after his posts in Naval uniform were observed by Naval intelligence officials.”

“From last 15 days we were working to catch him but he used to slip away every time. However, on the early hours of Thursday, we managed to get him. His purpose to pose as a naval officer was to lure girls into his trap,” added an ATS officer.

On his social media account with the name of raj_thefighterflyer, Vasco da Gama, Goa, Sharma has posted a photo in Naval uniform under which he has written “Fighter Pilot!!it’s  A Career Like Nothing on Earth #fighterpilot#navywhites#indiannavy#sublieutenant

Sharma used to live alone in the flat and was in the business of selling dog puppies to earn his livelihood. Sharma has graduated in Commerce from Goa and was living in Pune for last one year.

The police recovered two sets of uniforms along with 12 badges of Indian Navy and two fake Indian Navy I-cards  from his flat. 

The police registered a case under section 171 for wearing garb or carrying token used by public servant with fraudulent intent) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Sharma.
