21,100 saplings will be planted in S’nagar: MLA

Pune: MLA Vijay Kale on Thursday said that 21,100 saplings will be planted in Shivajinagar and nearby areas under the proposed plantation of 13 crore trees by the State government, which is a part of the 50 crore tree plantation drive by Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar. While addressing a press meet, Kale said that the saplings will be planted during the monsoon.

Pune: MLA Vijay Kale on Thursday said that 21,100 saplings will be planted in Shivajinagar and nearby areas under the proposed plantation of 13 crore trees by the State government, which is a part of the 50 crore tree plantation drive by Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar. While addressing a press meet, Kale said that the saplings will be planted during the monsoon.

Kale also said that the Bhamburda forest department has received Rs 90 crore from the government which will be utilised in setting up a biodiversity park. Deputy Conservator of Forest A Sreelakshmi said that the saplings distribution will start soon and co-operation of various government departments, co-operative societies, civil bodies, educational institutions, industry, voluntary organisations, civil society, non-government organisations is required for making the plantation drive a success. 

Speaking on the anti-encroachment drive in forest areas, Sreelakshmi said that about 160 hectares of forest land was recently freed from encroachments by the forest department. “We will send notices to people in cases of encroachment. Our anti-encroachment drive will continue,” she added. 

Officials of the Forest Department are conducting street plays in different parts of the city to promote the plantation drive.
