21-year-old youth held for abetment of girl’s suicide

The accused has been identified as Faizan Shaikh, a resident of Anjuman building at Bhakti-Shakti Chowk in Nigdi. The accused was harassing the 16-year-old minor from last two months and was forcing her to start a relationship with him.
 

Pune: A 21-year-old youth has been arrested by Kondhwa police on Wednesday for abetment of suicide. The accused forced a minor girl to start a relationship with him because of which she ended her life by hanging herself at her home in Kondhwa on Sunday.

The accused has been identified as Faizan Shaikh, a resident of Anjuman building at Bhakti-Shakti Chowk in Nigdi. The accused was harassing the 16-year-old minor girl Alisha Khan of Kondhwa from last two months and was forcing her to start a relationship with him.

The accused was hell-bent on marrying her without her consent and used to threaten her that if she does not submit to his demands the only option remaining for her will be to end up her life.

AM Sonawane, Assistant Police Inspector, Kondhwa police station said, “The girl was fed up with the threats given by Shaikh. She didn’t want to marry him and despite her objection to his proposal, he was not backing out. She thought she will not be able to go against his threat to forcefully marry her and ended her life on Sunday by hanging herself.

The police booked the accused under section 305 (Abetment of suicide of child or insane person) and section 107 (Abetment of a thing) of IPC.
