20-yr-old gets life term for murdering minor

Pune: A 20-year-old was sentenced to life imprisonment on Friday by Special Judge PC Bhagure at Shivajinagar Court for kidnapping and murdering a 10-year-old minor boy. 

On the afternoon of August 27, 2014, convict Vrushal Madhukar Kalane kidnapped the minor from his home and took him to his home in Bekrai Nagar, Phursungi. He tried to sexually assault the boy. Later, when the boy refused the sexual advances, Vrushal dunked his head in a bucket of water in his bathrooom and killed him.

On the afternoon of August 27, 2014, convict Vrushal Madhukar Kalane kidnapped the minor from his home and took him to his home in Bekrai Nagar, Phursungi. He tried to sexually assault the boy. Later, when the boy refused the sexual advances, Vrushal dunked his head in a bucket of water in his bathrooom and killed him. 

Vrushal's father Madhukar helped him in disposing the minor's body at Bopdev Ghat. The minor's body was wrapped in a gunny sack and Madhukar and Vrushal took their autorickshaw to dump the minor's body. Madhukar was sentenced to three years imprisonment for a trying to destroy evidence. 

The case was handled by Additional Public Prosecutor Vilas Patare who examined nine witnesses in the case. Patare said the court relied on circumstantial and forensic evidence. The case was investigated by Police Inspector Varsharani Patil, Assistant Sub Inspector BS Lokhande and policemen AS Gaikwad and CN Jadhav of Hadapsar police. 

The court directed the convict to pay Rs 1 lakh compensation to the family of the victim. Vrushal was acquitted of charges of sodomy. His mother, who was charged with destruction of evidence, was acquitted.
