Pune: A tuition teacher was arrested by the Sangvi police for allegedly assaulting a two-and-a-half-year-old child while teaching him. The accused, Bhagyadri Pilley (29) was sent to one-day police custody by Pimpri court.

According to Sangvi police, the incident occurred on September 11 at Amruta Colony in Pimple Gurav. The victim had gone to the tuition class at 4 pm. When he returned at 6 pm, his mother found that he was weeping heavily and his eyes were swollen. Police Sub Inspector AB Shete of Sangvi police station said check-ups were done at a private hospital and a government hospital. “All reports including CT-scan of the boy are normal. Earlier, we thought there would be a fracture but all reports are normal. However, both eyes are swollen and doctors at Sassoon Hospital said it will take a few days for the swelling to reduce,” added Shete.

Police Inspector Arvind Jondhale of Sangvi police station said the police first focused on the treatment of the boy. The accused was booked under Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Indian Penal Code. The victim’s mother works as a domestic help and his father is a labourer. The police said the accused was ready to pay for the victim’s medical expenses and so the complainant was in a dilemma whether to lodge a complaint or not.
