Varsity authorities could not be contacted despite attempts

Pune: It has been two years and parents of 14 students killed in Murud-Janjira tragedy have still not received justice.

On Wednesday, the parents of deceased students who had visited the officials of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), had to return disappointed.

“We wanted to meet Vice-Chancellor of SPPU Nitin Karmalkar, but since he was not available, we met Registrar Arvind Shaligram,” said Shivaji Salgar, one of the victim’s parent.

He further expressed that he is unaware of what resolutions were made or the reports were submitted in this regard.  He added that Shaligram promised them that he would seek necessary information within two days and revert accordingly.

“His lack of awareness about the incident clearly indicates the lack of seriousness on the part of university authorities in awarding justice to the parents of the victims.,” added Salgar.
