Pune: Two tricksters, including a minor in two different cases, have been arrested by cyber crime cell of Pune police from Alwar in Rajasthan for duping city residents of Rs 23,000 on the pretext of providing them with iPhones through OLX.
In both the cases, the fraudsters lured the victims into their trap by posing as Army personnel.
The two separate complaints regarding the fraud were registered at Hinjawadi police station and Vimantal police station. In both the cases, the frauds were committed by the duo. The arrested accused were identified as Taufik Khan, 22, and a minor, both residents of Alwar.
In the complainant registered at Hinjawadi police station, the complainant has been duped of Rs 7,000 on the pretext of iPhone through OLX. The complainant came in contact with accused minor on OLX, who gained the confidence of complainant by posing himself as an Army man and promised to provide an iPhone to him for Rs 14,000.
To certify his identity as Army man, the accused minor also sent a fake Aadhaar card and Army Canteen Card to the complainant.
However, after the complainant transferred Rs 7,000 into the trickster’s account, he stopped taking his calls and didn’t provide him with the phone. In a similar manner, the accused Taufik Khan, posing as an Army man, has lured a resident of Vimantal police station area and duped him of Rs 16,000 on the pretext of providing him with an iPhone.
Both the accused were arrested by the cyber crime cell of Pune police in Alwar.
